That’s it. There’s no stopping me now.
I am going to watch the Snow Patrol concert alone.
Last Sunday, I bought the ticket but I haven’t told my mom about it. She’ll probably kill me once she finds out. Since we were already around the area, we decided to channel our inner hipsters and walk around Cubao X. The laid-back, village-y feel of this hipster/bohemian hub is just one of the things I love about Quezon City. I ended up buying All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum. I’ll probably dedicate an entire blog post for this book because I loved it so much! As I was completely broke, I had to muster up the courage to use my damn card just so we could munch on some gnocchi and pizza.
Lesson of the day: empty wallet + insatiable hunger + Mr. Bellini = never a good idea!

The Cubao Adventure

Originally, I was going to watch the Train concert alone but, as expected, things didn’t exactly go my way. The fact that everybody thought I was an aloof weirdo for actually wanting to go the concert alone did not bother me one bit. I was not about to let anything get in my way. That is, until my mother found out that I was planning to watch a concert alone. Needless to say, she had to force someone (i.e. my cousin) to go with me. Great. I just missed the chance to watch a concert on my own.

I decided to leave home early and waste a few hours exploring whatever there was to explore in Cubao. My cousin and I toured around almost all the malls in the vicinity. And I am telling you, there were many. After what seemed to be an eternity of ravaging through sales without buying anything and rediscovering our love for SM Department Store, we finally decided to walk to our last stop before finally heading to the concert.

Given all the awesome things I have been hearing about it from a couple of friends, my expectations for Cubao Expo were quite high. And, it did not disappoint. It was such a quirky little place with secondhand stores and one-of-a-kind boutiques. I had so much fun! Where else could you find good-as-new Aldo and Zara heels for P1000 and the one thing I’ve been lusting over – Pluey’s rainboots! Since I was out of cash, I was not able to buy anything and we ended up having sisig in a box for dinner.

The extravagant spender that I am, my cousin and I had to sit through the entire concert with a view that made me question if I was better off spending the night in our condo unit and watching the band’s videos on Youtube. No regrets, though. Listening to them live and getting to sing along to Drops of Jupiter was definitely not a waste of P530. I loved every minute of it despite my irritating seatmate who felt like it was okay to block my view with her cheap oversized bag. While waiting for the car to arrive, we walked around some more and admired the cheerfully bright Christmas decors in the area. Yes, all was well but it would have been better if we had money left to buy sweet corn or even a cup of iced tea from the siomai stand.

One last detail before I end: During the concert, I saw a girl watching alone and I bet her mother did not reprimand her for wanting to do things on her own. Oh well, at least I know my mom loves me a little too much!
